6th graders at Red Hawk Elementary have spent the last several weeks exploring light phenomena. During the school’s pilot of IQWST, a new science program, students have been investigating how light interacts with different surfaces and objects. In one lab investigation, students measured how much light was reflected off a mirror and a piece of paper at different angles. Students made predictions, collected data with light sensors, and analyzed their results to draw conclusions about how light reflects and scatters with each surface.
Students are continuing to investigate the phenomena of light and how it also can create shadows, be absorbed, or be transmitted. Ask your 6th grader what he or she has learned about light and try your own light investigation at home!
